I Am Supposed to Be Here: Breaking the Cycle of Family Secrets

My grandfather is my biological father.

I’ve known this since I was eight years old.

For a long time, I questioned my very existence.

Was I a mistake?

How could the CREATOR allow something so cruel and impure to happen?

Why would God let me be born through something that felt so dark?

I carried that shame in silence for years.

But now, I know the truth: my existence is not a mistake. It’s purposeful.

Every tear my mother cried, every piece of pain she endured — it was not in vain.

I am supposed to be here.

When my mother was pregnant with me, her own father — the man who abused her — tried to erase me.

He took her to an abortion clinic.

But somehow, the doctor’s office had the wrong dates. They turned her away.

That was not an accident.

It was divine intervention.

I AM SUPPOSED TO BE HERE.

I was born to break generational curses.

The trauma and betrayal that tried to destroy my mother and me will never touch my daughters — or their daughters after them.

The cycle ends with me.

Today, we live in a time where more women and men are speaking their truth. It’s beautiful and powerful to see people standing in their light after years of silence.

But there’s still one area that doesn’t get talked about enough:

Molestation, rape, and incest that happens inside families.

In many homes, we are taught, “Keep family business within the family.”

But who does that protect?

Why do we cover for people who cause so much damage?

Why do we hide the truth instead of getting help — for the victims and even for the broken people who continue the cycle?

When we stay silent, we don’t just protect the abuser — we betray the innocent.

We teach generations after us to live with shame instead of healing.

Enough is enough.

I am standing in my truth, not just for me, but for my mother, for my daughters, and for anyone who has ever been made to feel that their life started with a curse instead of a calling.

You are not your trauma.

You are not your pain.

You are not the evil that was done to you.

You are chosen.

You are purposeful.

You are powerful.

I was not created to continue the cycle.

I was created to break it — and to speak life into everyone who thought they were forgotten.

If you are carrying a secret, a wound, or a silence that has weighed you down for too long, know this:

You are not alone.

You are not what happened to you.

You are what you choose to become.

We are the generation that will heal.

We are the generation that will stop the cycle.

We are the ones who will speak — and by speaking, set others free.

Your story has power. Speak it. Heal. Rise.

“The first step to breaking a generational curse is telling the truth. Your healing begins when silence ends.”
